Shane Hawkins To Play With Chevy Metal On Tour Amid Foo Fighters Rumours

Share

Shane Hawkins is once again joining Chevy Metal on tour this summer, fuelling speculation he may also replace outgoing member Josh Freese as the next drummer for Foo Fighters.

Shane Hawkins, son of the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, is heading back on the road this summer with rock covers outfit Chevy Metal. The 18-year-old drummer shared the tour details on Instagram with a simple “gunna be a blast,” confirming he’ll once again be taking up his father’s sticks behind the kit for a string of July and August shows.

Chevy Metal, founded by Taylor Hawkins and known for their high-energy covers of rock classics, has become a sentimental touchpoint for fans mourning the loss of the iconic drummer. Shane stepping into his father’s shoes is as emotional as it is electric – and his growing presence behind the kit is turning heads for more than just the nostalgia factor.

That’s because the timing of this announcement couldn’t be more intriguing. Just last week, Foo Fighters abruptly fired drummer Josh Freese, igniting a wave of speculation about who would fill the throne. And with Shane already proving himself on stage – including his unforgettable performance at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in 2022 – fans and pundits alike are wondering if he’s being lined up to officially join the band that made his dad a rock legend.

Blunt Mag has been tracking the Freese fallout closely, from Josh joking about his dismissal, to the original drummer calling out the band’s handling of the situation, and of course the growing whispers about Shane’s possible role in it all.

With Chevy Metal’s tour locked in and Foo Fighters yet to confirm their next drummer, the stage is literally set. All eyes are now on Shane Hawkins.
