Short Stack are back with a vengeance on ‘Burn You Down’

Share

It’s been all quiet on the Short Stack front for more than six years now, but that silence has been irrevocably shattered today with the trio returning to the fold with their most snarling effort yet. ‘Burn You Down’ shows the Central Coast’s favourite sons in a way we’ve never seen in their decade-spanning career. And we like what we see.

Existing well within the worlds of dance, pop and rock, ‘Burn It Down’ morphs before our eyes, with the fangs coming out for a bone-crunching breakdown and an explosion of dirty vocals that will leave even the most precious of Short Stack stans absolutely stunned.

“‘Burn You Down’ is about the duality of being young and feeling both indestructible and fragile at the same time,” the band says. “I don’t think the world needs another happy pop song at the moment, because I don’t think the world is a happy place at the moment. This song comes from a place of anger and destruction, about wanting to tear something down and begin again.”

The good news for fans doesn’t end there. It’s clear that ‘Burn You Down’ won’t be a one-and-done satellite single from the band, who have also announced a signing to UNFD, confirming that more material is on the horizon, and an official last-minute Sydney single launch show going down at Crowbar this week.

Chances are if you’re on this article you know all too well of the cultural phenomenon that was Short Stack, largely initiated with their debut record Short Stack Is The New Black, which launched the band to heights enjoyed by very few of their peers ever since.

“At one point we were one of the biggest bands in the country, you know we’ve done so many things that you can’t really top, so our goal is really just to do something that we believe in and have fun doing it.”
