Skid Row Name Justin Sargent as New Singer After Worldwide Search

Share

Skid Row have found their new singer after more than two years without a permanent frontman. Justin Sargent, a New Jersey vocalist who once played Spider-Man on Broadway, has already recorded his first song with the band.

The group opened auditions around the world and partnered with music retailer Sweetwater earlier this year. According to bassist Rachel Bolan, around 1,500 singers submitted performances. But their eventual choice was discovered much closer to home: manager Robby Hoffman saw Sargent sing at a charity event in New Jersey.

Sargent had been on the band’s radar since last year. He came to rehearsals knowing the entire set, despite initially being sent only five songs to learn, Bolan told MusicRadar. Months of playing and spending time together followed.

His stage credits include Rock of Ages and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, where he played Peter Parker. It’s an unusual route into a band whose songs include ’18 and Life’, ‘Youth Gone Wild’ and ‘I Remember You’. In the announcement, Sargent admitted he hadn’t expected the invitation:

I’ve been singing Skid Row songs for years, but never imagined I’d actually be joining the band!

Bolan summed up the connection simply: “He was one of us. A lifer.” Sargent succeeds Erik Grönwall, who left in March 2024 to focus on his health. Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale stepped in for a handful of shows later that year.

Fans can now hear him on Skid Row’s cover of The Who’s ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’. Sargent suggested the song himself, according to MusicRadar. Nick Raskulinecz, who produced 2022’s The Gang’s All Here, returned to produce the recording, while Dale ‘Rage’ Resteghini directed the video.

A signed 7-inch vinyl single is limited to 500 copies worldwide, with pre-orders through Skid Row’s official website.
