Slipknot Complete Major Catalog Deal With HarbourView

Slipknot have taken a significant step in their career, finalising a major deal to sell a stake in their archival music catalog to HarbourView Equity Partners.

The agreement, reportedly worth around $120 million, includes rights tied to the band’s publishing and recording masters royalties across their existing catalogue, importantly though future releases are not a part of the deal.

In a statement, HarbourView founder and CEO Sherrese Clarke highlighted the scale of Slipknot’s influence, saying: “SLIPKNOT’s music has redefined heavy metal and created a global cultural phenomenon.

Their catalog is a testament to their influence, passion, and enduring artistry within the genre. We pride ourselves on having our finger on the pulse of culture and with thorough analysis of audience engagement, we clearly see the cultural impact of SLIPKNOT from the 1990s to present.

The enduring and relevant proof points with SLIPKNOT remain core to our investing thesis, and HarbourView is honored to help preserve and amplify the group’s work for decades and generations to come.”

Billboard estimates the band’s music has generated roughly $15.5 million in annual revenue over the past three years, with publishing adding another $5.2 million per year. It remains unclear whether all members were involved in the agreement. Slipknot retain ownership of their publishing, while the masters themselves remain controlled by Warner Music Group, who inherited them when they acquired Roadrunner Records in 2007.

Slipknot’s impact across heavy music is difficult to overstate. Since their 1999 debut, the band have earned a Grammy Award, eleven nominations, multiple platinum and gold certifications worldwide, and billions of streams and video plays. Albums such as 2001’s Iowa continue to be praised, with Rolling Stone naming it one of “The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time” and The Ringer calling Slipknot “the most important heavy band of their era.”
