Slipknot’s Clown Warns Fans About New Album Look Outside Your Window

Slipknot’s long-awaited album Look Outside Your Window has taken on near-mythical status among fans, but percussionist Clown has some words of caution: do not expect Slipknot.

“It was never a Slipknot album,” Clown said in a new interview with Knotfest.com. “Not while it was happening, not while I’ve held onto it for ten years, and certainly not fuckin’ when it comes out.”

The record, recorded during the sessions for 2008’s All Hope Is Gone, has been gathering dust for nearly two decades. Described as experimental and with a “Radiohead vibe” by frontman Corey Taylor, Look Outside Your Window isn’t what you’d expect from Slipknot’s signature brand of chaos.

Clown’s message is clear: this isn’t Slipknot business as usual. “If any of that music could have been Slipknot, it would’ve been brought down [to the studio],” he explained. “But that’s not where anyone wanted to go. We had All Hope Is Gone. This album is something else entirely.”

The lineup on Look Outside Your Window—Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, Jim Root, and Clown—worked separately from the rest of the band during its creation. They’d spend hours jamming and experimenting before the others even showed up at the studio. “We’d see them before they’d see us,” Clown said, recalling the surreal energy of those sessions. “We just did what you should do. We made music.”

That process resulted in a body of work that’s introspective and experimental, capturing a different side of the band. The lyrics reflect what was going on within Slipknot at the time, though Clown kept quiet on the details.

After years of delays, Clown has finally turned the album over to management for a 2025 release. However, no official date has yet been announced. For guitarist Jim Root, the wait has been so agonising he’s even joked about leaking it himself.

With Slipknot also gearing up to work on their next studio album this year, 2025 is shaping up to be a big one for Maggots worldwide. Just don’t go into Look Outside Your Window expecting masks, madness, and mayhem. This one’s a different beast entirely.
