Well, folks, it looks like it’s official: Slipknot‘s long-delayed Look Outside Your Window album is finally coming. After 16 years of hints, jokes, and near-misses, Shawn “Clown” Crahan has confirmed it’s “out of my hands now” and that a plan is in place. So the rumours are true, it’s happening and this is not a drill.
For those unfamiliar, Look Outside Your Window was recorded during the All Hope Is Gone sessions back in 2008. But here’s the twist: it’s not your typical Slipknot album. Think more melodic, experimental rock, like Radiohead having a night out with Slipknot. Yeah, that kind of vibe. And it’s been locked away in the vault ever since.
In a recent chat with NME, Clown gave the long-awaited update. The album is finished. It’s coming… just not this year. “I gave it the best fight I could to make it this year,” he said. But, thanks to business timing and holidays, we’ll have to wait until 2024. “The money’s been spent, and there is a plan,” Crahan added. “It’s now out of my hands.”
For fans, this announcement feels like an almost fever dream. Look Outside Your Window was supposed to drop in 2019. Then it got pushed again. Corey Taylor even hoped it would never come out, calling it “the Wu-Tang album that only Martin Shkreli has.” Yeah, that was Corey being Corey. But now, he’s had a change of heart. “It’s so dope,” he says now. Guess we’ll see, Corey.
Crahan emphasised that this album wasn’t just some random side project. “It wasn’t a hype thing. We made music that wasn’t Slipknot, but used the skills of guys with no rules.” It’s something they did because they could, and after all these years, it’s finally ready to be shared.
So, if you’re a Slipknot fan who’s been waiting over a decade, your patience is about to finally pay off. Look Outside Your Window is set for release at some point soon. This is a Slipknot album that’s unpredictable, experimental, and just a little bit mysterious. And that’s exactly what makes it worth the long wait.
