Australian hardcore band Speed has confirmed the heartbreaking news that their close friend Chang-Wook “Aje” Yeo has passed away. Aje’s recent disappearance in Sydney’s Blue Mountains led the band to postpone several shows. It then sparked an outpouring of support from fans and the wider community.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, ‘Aje’ Chang-Wook Yeo,” the band shared in a statement. “We sincerely thank the countless people who have offered help, support, and understanding over the past few days. The love shown worldwide reflects the remarkable impact Aje had on so many.”

Aje moved to Sydney from South Korea in late 2022 and quickly became a key part of the city’s hardcore scene. Known for his unique style, signature ski mask, and unstoppable energy in the mosh pit, Aje was a familiar face at shows across the city. “His presence at Sydney hardcore shows was impossible to ignore and not admire,” Speed wrote.

But Aje wasn’t just about the music—he was passionate about building connections and contributing to the culture. “Being part of the Sydney hardcore scene is invaluable,” he once said. “I take great pride in being the only one from Asia contributing to the Sydney and Australian hardcore scene.”

In their tribute, Speed reflected on Aje’s kindness, ambition, and the way he made every interaction meaningful. He wasn’t just a fan or a friend—he was family. “Aje was a brother we all naturally adopted,” they said. “His passing leaves a deep wound, but we’ll honour him by continuing his tremendous legacy in everything we do.”

The band’s postponed shows allowed them to join search efforts in the Blue Mountains and support Aje’s friends and family. While the circumstances are deeply sad, Speed’s response has highlighted the strength of the hardcore community and the connections that make it so special.

Aje’s love for the scene and the people in it will remain a lasting part of his legacy. His energy, creativity, and dedication will not be forgotten by Speed, their fans, or the Sydney hardcore scene.

In loving memory of Chang-Wook “Aje” Yeo (1994–2025).
