System of a Down Are Teasing Something Quite Big

Share

System of a Down is up to something, but no one knows exactly what. After announcing six major 2025 tour dates with Korn, Deftones, and Avenged Sevenfold last week, the band has followed up with a cryptic teaser on their social media.

The short video, which features their 2001 track Chop Suey!, shows an eye slowly opening before the words WAKE UP! flash across the screen. It’s brief, mysterious, and has left fans madly scrambling for answers.

Clicking the teaser link on the band’s website doesn’t help much either. Instead of revealing any concrete details, it takes you to a mailing list sign-up page. “Be the first to know about the latest news, tour updates, and exclusive merchandise from System of a Down,” the message reads. No further explanation, no hints about what this teaser actually means.

So, what’s going on? The first thought that crosses many fans’ minds is that this has something to do with an anniversary celebration for Toxicity, given the use of Chop Suey! After all, the album will turn 24 in 2025, which could prompt the band to revisit their most iconic record with a special edition or a commemorative tour. But let’s be real—Toxicity turning 24 isn’t exactly a milestone that screams “big anniversary tour.” At best, it feels a little premature for something of that scale.

That leaves the door open for another possibility: new music. The teaser might signal that the band is finally recording again after nearly two decades of silence. While this is the dream for many fans, the presence of an old track like Chop Suey!” makes it hard not to be slightly cautious. The band has hinted at new material in the past, but nothing has ever come to fruition.

Whatever this teaser means, System of a Down is definitely up to something—and fans are waiting on the edge of their seats to find out exactly what it all means. Stay tuned.
