System of a Down Announce South American Tour: When Will Australia Get a Turn?

Share

System of a Down has pulled back the curtain on their cryptic teaser from earlier this week—and no, it’s not new music. Instead, the band has unveiled a massive South American tour kicking off in April 2025.

The band has unveiled a massive South American tour kicking off in April 2025. While this is great news for fans across Colombia, Peru, and Brazil, it raises a big question for those of us in Australia: Are we even on their radar?

Two Tours in 2025, No Aussie Dates

This latest announcement follows the reveal of six major North American shows with heavyweights like Korn, Deftones, and Avenged Sevenfold. Between those summer stadium gigs and now a seven-show run through South America, it’s clear that System of a Down is revving up for a busy 2025.

But what about us? The last time SOAD set foot in Australia was all the way back in 2012, when they co-headlined Soundwave Festival with Slipknot. That’s over a decade of radio silence for their devoted Aussie fans, leaving many to wonder if we’ve been forgotten entirely.

When drummer John Dolmayan teased in August that the band might hit “places we haven’t been in a while,” hopes were cautiously rekindled. But now, with two major tours locked in and no mention of Australia, it’s looking more and more like the wait could drag on until 2026.

What about new music?

Let’s back up for a second. Earlier this week, System of a Down dropped a cryptic teaser featuring their iconic 2001 track ‘Chop Suey!’. Fans went wild speculating about what it could mean—new music, a special edition of Toxicity, maybe even a full album tour.

Turns out, the teaser was all about hyping up this South American tour. While it’s a bit of a letdown for fans hoping for new material, it’s not exactly surprising. The band has been upfront about their ongoing creative differences, which have made the idea of new music feel like a pipe dream for years.

Even so, their ability to unite for these massive live shows proves that their legacy as one of metal’s most iconic acts is as strong as ever.

Will 2026 Be Australia’s Year?

With their schedule already packed through spring and summer 2025, it’s starting to feel like any Aussie dates will have to wait until 2026. But one thing’s for sure: System of a Down hasn’t forgotten how much their Australian fans love them.

Their explosive performances at Soundwave 2012 still echo in the memories of those lucky enough to see them. And let’s not forget Dolmayan’s comment about hitting places they haven’t been in a while—Australia would undoubtedly fit that bill.

It’s a waiting game for now, but if SOAD decides to bring their tour Down Under, you can bet it’ll be worth the decade-plus wait.
