The Original Misfits trio ripped through a 20-song set during their headline slot at Coachella’s Outdoor Theatre stage on Saturday night (April 12).
The trio comprised of: Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein dug deep into the vault for a set stacked with cult cuts and utter chaos. I mean, for a band whose legacy is quite literally built on speed, horror and unflinching attitude, they certainly didn’t let the Coachella gloss water it down. Not by any means.
Tracks from their 1982 classic Walk Among Us made up a big chunk of their sit. This included ‘20 Eyes’, ‘Astro Zombies’, ‘Skulls’ and the always-feral ‘Mommy, Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight?’.
The trio opened with ‘Death Comes Ripping’ and after that point, barely paused for air. ‘Where Eagles Dare’ hit like a brick wall. ‘Last Caress’ had the crowd screaming every word, many in makeup, some probably seeing the Misfits for the first time.
The rest of the setlist read like a horror-punk bible: ‘Bullet’, ‘Earth A.D.’, ‘Hybrid Moments’, ‘Come Back’, and more. Doyle looked like a cartoon villain come to life, hammering through riffs with zero subtlety. Danzig, for all his years and infamy, still sounded like he gargled gravel and likes the taste.
There was no speeches. No politics. No attempt to fit into the Coachella mould. Just noise, grit and black leather. It was a glorious reminder that the Misfits never played by the rules, and they never will. Despite being surrounded by LED screens and industry darlings, they did exactly what they wanted. And for that, they can’t be faulted.
While the Misfits’ Coachella 2025 set won’t go down as their most chaotic performance, it certainly was pure. Raw enough to cut through the festival gloss, fast enough to leave no time for questions.
