The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating 30 years of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness with an ‘OG Goth’ smoothie at Erewhon, and it’ll cost you an arm and a leg (but looks cool as hell).
The Smashing Pumpkins are collaborating with (eye wateringly expensive) grocery store Erewhon for an ‘OG Goth’ smoothie to celebrate 30 years of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness – and while it might cost you a pretty penny, it’s all for a good cause.
The OG Goth Smoothie will cost $19.79 USD and be available from all Erewhon locations from now until November 8. A portion of the proceeds from smoothie sales will go to the Concussion Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit organisation that supports those affected by concussions and CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), while also advocating for concussion safety. The Smashing Pumpkins’ own Billy Corgan serves on the foundation’s national advisory board.
If you’re wondering exactly what a goth smoothie contains, it’s been given that Erewhon special treatment – that is, a whole lot of organic superfoods and high quality ingredients that may or may not be good for you. Think Lion’s Mane mushrooms, blue spirulina, avocado, and a whole lot more.
“The OG Goth name is in tribute, and particularly to those great and pioneering gothic bands in L.A. who inspired me to be myself and trust in the kind of music I dreamed of making,” The Smashing Pumpkins frontman said in an interview with Us Weekly. “As well as those that [are] born unique or have [been] overlooked or othered by a culture writ large and somehow together we find common cause and community in our own, self-created netherworld.”
If Erewhon as a brand name is ringing a bell, that’s likely because of their reputation in LA (and globally) for very pricy, albeit very delicious smoothies, often in collaboration with celebrities like Kali Uchis and Travis Scott.
Remember the viral Hailey Bieber ‘Skin Glaze’ smoothie that cost $20USD? If you were wondering if it was any good, by the way, I can confirm after testing it for scientific purposes that it is pretty sick – but maybe not $30AUD worth.
Would I still drink the equally pricey goth smoothie from The Smashing Pumpkins? Yes, obviously.
