Controversial As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis is facing renewed scrutiny. This time for alleged animal abuse.
A petition demanding an investigation into Lambesis’ treatment of his dog has now surpassed 70,000 signatures. The petition, hosted by Care2, references a 30-second video that surfaced in January of this year. It appears to show Lambesis frustrated with his dog, at one point kicking the animal, then striking it, and later raising closed fists in a threatening way. As the video contains disturbing content, Blunt Magazine have elected not to share the video.
The petition calls for “justice and intensive psychological treatment.” It also specifically cites Lambesis’ history of violence specifically his 2014 conviction for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his then-wife. “It’s clear that this man’s violent tendencies didn’t decrease after his attempts to have his wife killed,” the petition reads.
The video also emerged alongside other disturbing clips, including one showing Lambesis in a heated argument with current wife Dany Norris. In one clip, he flips a table while she’s sitting at it. In another, he appears to punch himself repeatedly as she tries to de-escalate the situation.
Responding to the controversy, Lambesis accused Norris of domestic violence in a series of November posts, claiming she launched a smear campaign after he filed for divorce. He also stated that a restraining order and investigation were underway against her, framing his own behaviour as “inappropriate but not illegal.”
This controversy follows a steady unraveling of the band’s lineup. Since reforming in 2018, nearly every long-term member has walked. Guitarist Nick Hipa left in 2020. Drummer Jordan Mancino and bassist Josh Gilbert exited in 2022. By 2023, even the newer recruits—Ryan Neff, Ken Susi, and Nick Pierce—had left. Phil Sgrosso, the last holdout, departed last year citing “concerning patterns of behaviour” and an unsafe environment.
Right now, Lambesis is the only remaining member of As I Lay Dying. Whether anything comes of the petition remains to be seen but the band’s future looks increasingly uncertain.
