Vapors of Morphine have just announced their return to Australia this April and May, bringing their hypnotic, sax-driven low-rock sound to venues across the country.
The band, featuring original Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley, will be performing a mix of Morphine classics, deep blues, African rhythms, and psychedelic rock, keeping the spirit of the legendary ‘90s trio alive while pushing their sound into new territory. This marks a rare chance for Australian fans to witness the next chapter in the Morphine legacy.
The music of Morphine was hypnotic, sultry, and completely unique. With its baritone sax, two-string slide bass, and raw percussion, the ’90s trio carved out a sound that still resonates today. But when frontman Mark Sandman died suddenly on stage in 1999, it seemed like the story had ended.
Enter Vapors of Morphine—not just a tribute, but a continuation. Formed in the late 2000s by Morphine Colley and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Lyons, the band honours the past while expanding the sound into new territory. Their latest album, Fear & Fantasy (2021), blends Morphine’s signature low-rock aesthetic with blues, African rhythms, and psychedelia, proving that their legacy is alive and well.
Their live shows mix Morphine originals with deep blues and experimental grooves, pushing their music into fresh sonic landscapes. More than just a nostalgic trip, Vapors of Morphine create something that stands on its own—dark, immersive, and hypnotic.
Adding to the experience, Jeb Cardwell will be joining the band for all shows (except Gumball Fest). A seasoned guitarist and singer-songwriter, Cardwell has played with Kasey Chambers and opened for icons like Steve Earle and Tony Joe White. His laid-back yet razor-sharp guitar work makes him the perfect match for Vapors of Morphine’s moody, intoxicating energy.
Tickets are on sale Friday, February 21 from 9am. They can be accessed here.
