Wage War Announce New Album ‘Landfall’, Drop Crushing Title Track

Share

Wage War have spent this year leaning hard into the heavier end of their sound, now we know where it has been heading.

The Florida metalcore band will release their new album Landfall digitally on October 9th via Fearless Records, following April’s It Calls Me By Name EP. Alongside the announcement, Wage War have released the album’s title track, a first look at the 13-song record.

‘Landfall’ opens with an emergency broadcast-style warning before dropping into the kind of low end punishment Wage War have made a career out of, with Briton Bond’s screams offset against Cody Quistad’s cleaner chorus.

But the hurricane imagery isn’t there simply because it sounds appropriately apocalyptic. For a band formed in Florida, the title has a more literal point of origin.

“’Landfall’ is a song about imminent danger and the realization that we aren’t in control,” Wage War offer. “Referencing our Florida roots, the hurricane imagery became a way of talking about that feeling of being completely at the mercy of something bigger than yourself. Musically, we wanted the verses to feel heavy and threatening, with the chorus being somber and inevitable.”

The announcement extends a busy year for Wage War. The band released the five track It Calls Me By Name EP on April 17th, including ‘Sweet Dreams’, ‘Song of the Swamp’ and ‘Blindfold’, Fearless Records currently lists the EP as the band’s latest release.

Landfall expands that run into a full 13 track album, with ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘Song of the Swamp’ appearing alongside the newly released title track and songs including ‘God Complex’, ‘Way Of Pain’, ‘Red Dot’ and ‘Silhouette’.

There is an obvious through-line here. Wage War’s 2024 album STIGMA pushed further into industrial and electronic textures; the material that has followed has increasingly reminded listeners that the band can still make things ugly when they want to. ‘Landfall’ puts the guitars and groove back at the centre without abandoning the melodic instincts that have become equally important to their sound.

If the title track is the warning siren, October 9 is when the whole thing hits.
