In possibly one of the most pop punk things to happen at Warped Tour over the weekend, Bowling For Soup busted out the Phineas and Ferb theme song to a packed crowd.
Hold on to your proverbial pet platypuses (who may also be secret agents): Bowling for Soup turned the Vans Warped Tour Long Beach stop into a backyard summer cartoon yesterday with a live rendition of the Phineas and Ferb theme song.
Jaret Reddick’s voice, already iconic for fans of both millennial angst and animated hijinks, kicked into the opening “there’s 104 days of summer vacation…” and the crowd – equal parts aging scene kids and next-gen emos – lost their collective mind.
For a moment, Warped Tour’s crowd was in the thick of the summer vacation Phineas and Ferb promised us: endless, ridiculous, and full of questionable science.
Bowling For Soup are the musicians behind the theme song for the show, so leaning hard into the nostalgia for a live performance was a no brainer (especially given they performed the theme song live at Warped Tour DC too) – but no less of an absolute joy to hear ricocheting across Long Beach for tens of thousands.
In a scene often obsessed with staying “real,” Bowling for Soup reminded everyone that real doesn’t have to mean joyless. Sometimes, being earnest about something absurd is more punk than being cool ever was.
And yesterday, that meant turning a children’s cartoon theme song into the Warped Tour anthem we didn’t know we needed – a track that was well and truly burnt into the millennial psyche to begin with, and is likely to be playing on people’s minds for days to come now.
