Fleetwood Mac legend and certified dad Lindsey Buckingham has offically entered his “YouTube reacts” era. His first target was Charli XCX’s chaos-drenched airport romp, Von Dutch.
Yep, Buckingham, aged 74 sat down with his daughter Leelee to watch the video which features Charli stomping through an airport. A video that sees her spitting and headbutting the camera with no pants on. It’s high art bratcore, and everything the TSA fears.
Before hitting play, Leelee cheekily asked if he’d had a “Brat summer” last year. His answer? “The brattiest.” We’re not saying we want a Buckingham x Charli remix, but if it happened, we’d be front row.
As the mayhem kicked off, Lindsey noted the energy shift immediately: “It’s getting kinda saucy already,” he said, seconds after Charli ditches her pants in Departures. “Not a good place to get saucy,” he added.
By the time Charli’s covered in fake blood and smearing it across the lens, Buckingham looked like a man who’d accidentally walked into a Berghain bathroom. But he didn’t flinch. He leaned in. “I’m surprised the airport let her do all this stuff,” he added.
In the end, he declared the video “very entertaining,” adding that it all played out in “a normal restrictive environment” — which, yes, is exactly what makes it brilliant. When asked what Charli was trying to say, he nailed it: “She’s saying, ‘Screw you!’”
The videos release comes as a part of a new series on his channel where Lindsey reacts to music videos. Next up, maybe Megan Thee Stallion? Or Rina Sawayama?
Meanwhile, Charli’s Brat era rages on, with critical love, sold-out raves, and a remix album titled Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat, which somehow makes perfect sense. She recently performed at Coachella where she declared that Brat summer was not dead yet. So perhaps, maybe another remix album this time featuring Buckingham? I can see it.
