The Wiggles performed AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ (backed by their live band) on a fan-made cardboard V-shaped electric guitar in Canberra on the weekend.
If you still had any doubts about The Wiggles’ homegrown rock and punk cred that this iconic ARIA’s photo with Amy Taylor of Amyl and the Sniffers didn’t dispel, the Aussie icons’ recent performance in Canberra should do the trick: Anthony Field (AKA the Blue Wiggle) took to the stage armed with a fan-made cardboard V-shaped electric guitar for a rendition of AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ over the weekend.
In a post made to The Wiggles’ social media pages which thanked those attending their ‘The Tree of Wisdom’ Aussie tour for bringing along “beautiful signs, arts, crafts, and creations,” the children’s music group (although at this point their fan demographic is probably just as much adults) included a fun clip from their Canberra performance.
Field held up the V-shaped electric guitar craft from a fan, and said he’d seen AC/DC perform over the weekend – and was about to treat those who missed out on tickets (or maybe had their bedtime before the rockers came onstage at 8:30pm) to a little recreation of what they missed.
Field used the cardboard guitar as an air guitar as The Wiggles’ live band behind the crew performed the AC/DC track, while the rest of the group onstage clapped and sang along for the brief rendition.

For those well-versed in The Wiggles lore, this isn’t the first time they’ve covered AC/DC either in person or on an album. Their 2022 album ReWiggled featured a ‘Thunderstruck’ cover, while they also contributed a cover of ‘It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll)’ for the 2000 compilation album The Andrew Denton Breakfast Show Musical Challenge. They’re pretty well known for their covers across the board, given their 2021 Hottest 100-winning Like A Version of Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant.’
