Weezer are still performing at Coachella 2025, despite bassist Scott Shriner’s wife, Jillian Shriner, being arrested for attempted murder earlier this week.
The LAPD confirmed that Jillian, an author who writes under the name Jillian Lauren was involved in a police shooting on April 8. According to the report, officers were chasing a hit-and-run suspect when one of the suspects allegedly tried to enter the Shriners’ property. Jillian reportedly fired a gun at the intruder, then pointed the weapon at police. She was shot in the shoulder and taken into custody. A 9mm handgun was recovered from the scene by police.
Lauren was later booked for attempted murder but has since posted US$1 million bail. She has since been released from custody.
Despite the situation, a source told Variety the band are still locked in for Coachella “as of now.” But there’s some caution. Things could easily shift as the case develops further.
Scott Shriner has also since commented briefly on the incident, confirming Weezer are still plan to play the festival. “She’s alright, thank you for asking,” he said in a recent statement regarding the incident. “See you at Coachella.”
Perhaps a testament to Shriner’s work ethic or tenacity, I couldn’t see myself doing the same thing given the circumstances. The band were added to the line-up alongside Ed Sheeran earlier this week, with performances set across the next two weekends. For now, there’s no change to those plans.
Outside of the festival, Weezer have a UK and European tour lined up for later in the year. Last year, they marked the 30th anniversary of The Blue Album with a run of shows, a concert film, and a reissue of their 1994 debut.
While the band haven’t publicly commented beyond Shriner’s short statement, their plans to perform at Coachella remain intact for now. There’s no word yet on whether the unfolding case will impact future plans.
