Wheatus Acoustic Tour Adds American Pie Star to Sydney Lineup

Share

It’s not every day you get a mix of early 2000s pop-punk nostalgia and a slice of American Pie history, but Wheatus has found a way to pull it off. The band’s acoustic tour has been serving up stripped-back vibes across the country, but Sydney fans are in for a special treat—Kevin Meyers himself (yes, the American Pie legend Thomas Nicholas) is joining the line-up.

Led by Wheatus frontman Brendan B. Brown and bandmate Gabrielle Sterbenz, this tour has been about bringing the hits down to their raw, acoustic roots. Add former The Chats guitarist and songwriter Josh “Pricey” Price into the mix, and you’ve got an Aussie tour dripping with both nostalgia and punk rock charm.

But here’s the clincher: Sydney’s show at The Loft (inside UTS Underground) on 30 January is about to get even more nostalgic. The Thomas Nicholas Band will be on stage, celebrating 25 years since American Pie hit screens. Nicholas and his band are riding high off their seventh album, which features collaborations with pop-punk legends Bowling For Soup and Less Than Jake.

For those keeping score, Nicholas isn’t just about the films—he’s built a solid music career. TNB’s track “My Generation” made it onto the American Reunion soundtrack, and their parody track 1999 (a playful twist on Bowling For Soup’s 1985) is exactly the kind of cheeky, nostalgic energy this Sydney show promises to bring.

This tour has been a celebration of iconic tunes, stripped-down performances, and sweaty, intimate Aussie venues. Brendan, Gabrielle, Pricey, and now Nicholas are proving why this kind of gig hits harder than an arena. If you’re in Sydney, or anywhere along the tour route, grab your tickets and get ready for some dirtbag magic.

For those whose interest I have now piqued, tickets are still available from here.
