Windwaker have released the official video for ‘dna’, less than a week after introducing the track during their debut appearance on triple j’s Like A Version.
The Melbourne heavyweights released ‘dna’ last Friday, September 18th, performing the new track live in the triple j studio alongside a suitably heavy reworking of The Kid LAROI’s ‘GIRLS’.
Now ‘dna’ has its own official video as Windwaker continue the countdown towards third album smile, you’re on camera, due October 23rd through Civilians/Fearless Records.

Windwaker Dig Into Identity On ‘dna’
Musically, ‘dna’ keeps pulling at the different threads that have increasingly defined Windwaker, shifting between synths, hip-hop-influenced verses, heavy riffs and Liam Guinane’s harsher vocals.
Lyrically, however, the band are looking inward.
“’dna’ explores a deeply internal struggle with identity, self-worth, and the feeling of being trapped by one’s own nature,” Windwaker explain.
“The song reflects on emotional instability and the pressure of living up to expectations, while battling impulses, ego, and the fear of never truly changing. There’s a recurring tension between wanting growth and feeling stuck in destructive patterns, as if these flaws are hardwired into their ‘DNA.’”
That tension feeds directly into the broader ideas behind smile, you’re on camera. The 12 track record follows 2024’s HYPERVIOLENCE, with Windwaker leaning towards a grittier, more guitar-driven approach while continuing to jump between metal, electronic music, hip-hop and pop.
The album also features RinRin on ‘click.’ and Yours Truly vocalist Mikaila Delgado on ‘loser’. ‘dna’ joins previously released tracks including ‘closer’, ‘click.’, ‘do or die’ and ‘victory lap’.

Windwaker will take the record around Australia almost immediately, beginning their biggest headline tour to date in Perth on October 30th. The Pretty Wild will make their Australian debut on the run, with RinRin and DREGG also joining the bill.
