Wunderhorse Release Brooding New Single ‘The Rope’

Share

Wunderhorse are back in their dark, hypnotic groove with new single ‘The Rope’. It’s a brooding, slow-burner that feels like it was dragged out of the back of your brain during a thunderstorm.

Premiered following their debut on Later… With Jools Holland, the track lands with the kind of wounded confidence that’s quickly becoming Wunderhorse’s calling card. It’s also their first release since bassist Peter Woodin quietly bowed out last month, ending a seven-year run with the band. His absence was clocked by fans watching their Jools set, and confirmed soon after in a post that felt part breakup note, part respect-filled sendoff.

No public drama. No flaming out. Just a clean cut, and the band pushing on.

‘The Rope’ was laid down in a flash at RAK Studios in London, with producer Loren Humphrey at the helm. It carries the weight of something fresh and raw, written just before their recent UK tour. There’s tension in every corner of the track—taut guitar lines, emotionally cracked vocals, and a sense that something might snap at any second.

The band are pressing the single to a limited 7” vinyl, backed with an acoustic version of fan-favourite ‘Arizona’. It drops June 3 via select indie stores—exactly the kind of release fans will fight over on Discogs in six months’ time.

While Wunderhorse’s last record Midas marked a big creative leap. It earned rave reviews for its sonic ambition, whereas ‘The Rope’ feels like a moodier left turn. Less polish, more pain. A little haunted. And honestly, all the better for it.

Wunderhorse aren’t in a rush to prove anything. They’re growing, shapeshifting, and cutting loose what no longer fits. With ‘The Rope’, they remind us they’re not just a band on the rise—they’re a band with bite. And they’re not afraid to sit in the dark for a while.
