Lewis Capaldi has been mostly silent since stepping away from the spotlight in mid-2023. But a trusted mate in the form of YUNGBLUD has offered the clearest sign yet that he’s on the mend. And back in the studio.
Yungblud told The Sun this week that the Scottish singer is “sounding great” and working on new material. He also added that Capaldi has been focused on improving his mental health. This was cited as the reason for stepping back after his tough Glastonbury set in 2023.
That set, which ended with fans singing ‘Someone You Loved’ back to him as he visibly struggled with his Tourette’s symptoms, marked a turning point. Capaldi later announced he’d be taking extended time off to get both his mental and physical health in check.
At the time, he posted: “I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”
Now, almost two years later, it sounds like he’s found some balance. Yungblud said, “I love him. Me and him have been on this ride together… he’s perhaps the only friend who knows what I’m going through, in the same way I know what he’s going through.”
That bond goes deeper than music, but it’s good news for fans hoping to hear Capaldi’s voice again soon. Rumours of a 2025 album have been circulating for months. While nothing’s official, this update does add weight to the whispers.
In the meantime, Capaldi’s fans have stayed loyal, continuing to share the Glastonbury clip as a moment of raw, communal support. His honesty about Tourette’s and choosing to step away rather than push through has resonated far beyond the stage.
There’s no comeback date yet, but if Yungblud’s word is anything to go by, Lewis Capaldi’s return won’t stay under wraps for long. In the meantime, Yungblud has just released his own new music in the form of nine minute track ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’. You can listen to the song below.
