Yungblud has released the live recording of his cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’, performed during the metal legends’ final ever concert at Villa Park earlier this month, and it now comes with a personal co-sign from Ozzy Osbourne himself.
The version, played on July 5 in front of a sold-out crowd in Sabbath’s hometown of Birmingham, is officially out now as a single, with all proceeds going to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.
The 26-year-old frontman joined a supergroup at the historic farewell gig, performing alongside Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Sleep Token’s drummer II and Ozzy’s longtime keyboardist Adam Wakeman. The set was emotional, and Yungblud dedicated the song to the late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away two days before the show.
Calling the performance the biggest moment of his entire life, Yungblud said in a statement, “I got to stand on stage and honour one of my heroes, and the fact that it has touched so many is truly overwhelming. The best part about this release is that we can take such a monumental moment, immortalise it on tape, release it and donate all the money to such important causes. This is what rock and roll is about.”
If that wasn’t enough, Ozzy Osbourne himself praised the cover, saying, “He did an amazing job. I couldn’t have done it better myself.”
Yungblud also made headlines at the show after giving Ozzy a custom-made gold cross backstage, a tribute to the necklace Ozzy gifted him years earlier. Their exchange went viral as Yungblud told Ozzy, “Thank you for everything. It’s a fucking honour,” while the Prince of Darkness, visibly moved, told him to “never give in”.
The track, pulled from Sabbath’s 1972 album ‘Vol. 4’, lands at the tail end of a monumental run for Yungblud, whose recent album ‘Idols’ earned him a third consecutive Number One in the UK. The video for the Villa Park performance drops today at 5pm. Listen, stream, and add it to your playlist – it all goes to a damn good cause.
