Yungblud Says IDOLS Part Two Is Coming Soon And It’s ‘More Cynical’

Yungblud says part two of his double album IDOLS is arriving “imminently” and will take a more cynical, stripped-back direction.

Yungblud is already looking ahead. After releasing the first half of his double album IDOLS in June, the UK artist has confirmed that part two is close to landing and promises a noticeably different tone. According to Yungblud, the second instalment is “more cynical” and will arrive “imminently”.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the artist explained that while the first part of IDOLS focused on personal liberation, the follow-up deals with what comes after that breakthrough. “The first part is about self-reclamation and flying, learning how to get your wings. The next bit is the real realism — how do you live in the real world as this person you’ve discovered? It’s a little bit more cynical,” he said.

The second part of IDOLS is once again produced by Andrew Watt, continuing the collaboration that shaped the album’s opening chapter. Yungblud also revealed the title of the new record’s opening track, ‘I Need You to Make the World Seem Fine’, and shared a sample of its lyrics: “Pictures of idols rise up and fall/Wish you knew it all/Lift your head from the pillow, you’ve been missing enough/Built yourself a wall.”

Beyond its themes, Yungblud suggested the sound of part two will mark a sharp turn from what came before. “Idols was extremely maximalist,” he said. “What me and Watt wanna do is extremely minimalist. We really wanna make it sound live, band-y. We might not even record to a click.”

That approach is informed his listening habits, with the artist drawing inspiration from a specific era of stripped-back, emotionally direct performances. “I’ve been listening to [Jeff] Buckley and [Chris] Cornell and [Scott] Weiland.”

Yungblud also pointed to a guiding philosophy he credits to David Bowie. “My favorite thing Bowie said was, ‘I would look at the last album and go completely the opposite way,’” he said. “If you’ve got three minutes and five chords and the f**king truth, what are you gonna do?”

While no release date has been confirmed, Yungblud’s comments suggest the second half of IDOLS is nearly here. We’d love if he dropped it while in Australia for his tour, which kicks off this weekend in Sydney, but we won’t be holding our breath for anything that soon.
