Zulu Announce Hiatus as Frontman Denies Abuse Allegations

Los Angeles hardcore band Zulu have recently announced they are going on hiatus following abuse allegations against frontman Anaiah Rasheed Muhammad.

The band have also cut ties with Muhammad, stating they will not work with or perform alongside him moving forward.

As reported in a previous article, the allegations were made public by musician Simpson, who accused Muhammad of being physically, emotionally, and psychologically abusive during their relationship. She also described their time together as “a violent one” and recounted numerous incidents of abuse.

Muhammad has since denied all accusations, calling them “false and deeply troubling.” In a statement, he claimed he has “never engaged in any form of coercion, manipulation, or isolation toward” Simpson and denied ever committing physical abuse.

Zulu addressed the situation in the statement, saying, “We stand in solidarity with all people who are victims of abuse and condemn the mistreatment of those vulnerable in our communities. Our hearts go out to anyone who has experienced any form of physical or emotional abuse, assault, or any other act that has caused harm and taken their agency away from them.”

The remaining members also stated that they were unaware of the allegations before they became public. However, Simpson has since pushed back on that claim, calling it “a lie” in her Instagram stories.

Zulu were set to play multiple upcoming shows, all of which have now been canceled. The band last released A New Tomorrow in 2023, a record that cemented their reputation as one of hardcore’s most exciting and politically charged acts.

For now, the future of Zulu remains uncertain. With the band stepping away and Muhammad denying the allegations, the situation continues to unfold. But by the sounds of it, it doesn’t look like we will be hearing from Zulu in a long while.
