Zulu frontman Anaiah Rasheed Muhammad has denied allegations of abuse after a former partner accused him of physical violence on social media.
The accusations surfaced over the weekend on social media via the Instagram account of singer- songwriter Simpson. The post goes into specific details about the incidents of abuse. This includes detailing an incident where the police were allegedly involved.
Muhammad has since responded with a statement denying all allegations, calling them “false and deeply troubling.” He also claimed he has “never engaged in any form of physical abuse” and that violence is “completely against my values.” He also stated that he has never attempted to control, manipulate, or intimidate the accuser in any way.
Muhammad said he attempted to resolve matters through an imam as a neutral mediator, but his former partner declined to meet. He concluded by saying he is “fully prepared to defend himself” and will cooperate with any necessary process to clear his name.
Despite the post only coming out three days ago, the fallout from the allegations has been swift. Former Zulu drummer Dan Brown took to social media, stating, “For everybody who asked me do I still play for Zulu, this is why I don’t,” before sharing a post supporting Muhammad’s accuser.

Meanwhile, Zulu played a show without Muhammad on March 8 at NDP Fest in São Paulo, Brazil. The band has yet to make an official statement about his status. This leaves lingering questions about whether Muhammad will remain in the group into the future, or whether he will be removed completely.
Whether this marks the end of Muhammad’s role in Zulu or if the band will formally address the situation remains unclear. For now, Zulu is continuing on without him.
