2025 was a major year for heavy music. Alt metal, hard rock and experimental heaviness pushed deeper into global culture than ever before. From Sleep Token’s rise to Deftones returning with force, the heavy scene did not simply evolve, it exploded.
To capture what truly mattered this year, Blunt created something new.
The Data Behind the List

WHAT IS THE BLUNT IMPACT SCORE?
The Blunt Impact Score (BIS) is Blunt Magazine’s transparent system for ranking a track’s real world impact. BIS combines three publicly visible factors:
• Streaming Impact (50 percent), global traction, playlist presence and visible platform performance.
• Cultural Impact (30 percent), critical praise, fan conversation, virality and influence.
• Chart Impact (20 percent), official positions on Billboard, ARIA, UK charts and other major rankings.
Because Spotify and other DSPs do not publish full public streaming numbers, BIS uses only publicly observable signals. These are the same indicators labels, managers and analysts rely on to measure a track’s true scale.
