The Atlanta Police have released their report online detailing the fatal crash that took Brent Hinds‘ life.
The former Mastodon guitarist was pronounced dead after being hit by an SUV after the driver failed to yield at an intersection near downtown Atlanta. Officers would find Hinds still breathing and moving at the time of arrival.
In their report, the Atlanta Police Department shared that the driver of the SUV was “positive the light was green” when she turned. She remained at the scene until the police arrived.
However, a witness at the scene has refuted her claim, saying that while Hinds was “driving fast”, the driver still drove through a red light.
The report also shares the 911 call, where the caller described the incident. In the transcript, the caller claims they saw Hinds “up in the air” during impact, spinning “a couple of times. And then he fell. It looks like his left leg buckled over his right leg. I was two cars back, so I didn’t see the full impact, but I heard the impact and [saw Hinds] spinning.”
The responding police officer said: “At the moment I arrived on scene [Hinds] was breathing and moving with visible injuries to his head, arms and torso. He was transported… to Grady [Memorial Hospital] where he perished from his injuries.”
Brann Dailor would pay tribute to their former band member at their Alaska State Fair Show in Palmer, saying:
“We loved him so, so, so very much. And we had the ups and downs of a 25-year relationship, you know what I mean? It’s not always perfect, it’s not always amazing, but we were brothers to the end,” the drummer shared.
“I don’t know. We’re just at a loss for words. We’re absolutely devastated and crushed to lose him and to be able to never have him back again. But you guys made it OK for us to come on stage and do this tonight. So that was for fucking Brent, OK? Thank you guys so much.”
He concluded: “Thank you for helping us get through that one, it was fucking tough for us. But you guys are fucking amazing, so thank you.”
The official obituary for Hinds says that a celebration of life is to take place in Atlanta.
