AI “Actress” Tilly Norwood Has Released A Music Video Ahead Of The Oscars

Share

Tilly Norwood, an AI “actress” created by Dutch actress Eline Van der Velden, has unveiled a weirdly self-justifying music video.

Tilly Norwood, an AI actress created by Dutch flesh and blood actress, comedian, and producer Eline Van der Velden through her company Particle6, has yet to appear in a movie or TV series. But really, we shouldn’t throw too much shade there – we all know plenty of actors who haven’t either, and they still keep showing up to improv class.

Nonetheless, Norwood – and referring to this thing as though it’s an actual human is doing my head in – has diversified into music, like so many aspiring performers before her. The result is a music video for “Take The Lead”, a song that goes to great lengths to justify the AI creation’s existence, as well as throw a little shade at her haters. Said “haters” include pretty much every living actor on the planet. Check it out. Or don’t; it’s dreadful.

But what is interesting is the weird, defensive tone of the whole thing which I, a river to my people, listened to in its entirety. “AI’s not the enemy, it’s the key, Norwood sings at one point. At another, “Unlock it all, don’t hesitate, AI Actors, we create our fate.”

At this point, what’s been created on the Tilly Norwood YouTube channel is two short videos in the past seven months. At a biscuit over four minutes, “Take The Lead” is the longest, which doesn’t instill much confidence in the possibility of Norwood going feature length. The channel currently has about 3700 subscribers at the time of writing. She’s doing better on Insta, though, with about 90K.

The release does seem to be timed to coincide with the lead up to the Oscars this weekend, with the digital nightmare posting, “Can’t wait to go to the Oscars! Does anyone know if they have free valet parking for my flamingo? xx”. Still, given SAG-AFTRA decried her very existence, I can’t see that being a real possibility unless they start using AI seat fillers.
