As I Lay Dying Finish New Album And Ask Fans To Help Choose Final Tracklist

As I Lay Dying have completed recording their ninth studio album, but the band are handing part of the final decision making process over to fans.

Frontman Tim Lambesis confirmed the update on September 8th, revealing that As I Lay Dying recorded 12 songs for the record but only intend to keep 10 on the finished album (per Lamb Goat).

To help settle the tracklist, the band will release two new songs, Polarized and Retribution, on September 15th before opening up voting and asking fans whether both should make the final cut.

“So we finally finished recording the new As I Lay Dying album, and we did 12 songs with the intention of keeping 10. We’ve had a lot of conversations amongst us trying to figure out what those 10 songs are, and we figured we should bring you guys in on the conversation,” Lambesis said.

The two tracks have deliberately been chosen to represent opposite ends of the new album’s sound.

“Polarized is quite a bit more melodic, mid-tempo, a little bit more singing, but still very heavy and driving. And then Retribution is just fast, dark, and heavy, no singing at all whatsoever. So those are the two ends of the spectrum.”

Lambesis added that much of the remaining material sits somewhere between those extremes.

“We figured we’d start there, see what you guys thought. And most of the rest of the record lives somewhere in between, but we want to bring you guys in to just give us your feedback so we can make these final decisions together.”

The album is expected to arrive in 2027 through Napalm Records and will follow 2024’s Through Storms Ahead.

It will also be the first full-length recorded with As I Lay Dying’s current line-up, which now includes guitarists Bill Hudson and Don Vedda, bassist and clean vocalist Chris Clancy and drummer Tim Yeung alongside Lambesis.

As I Lay Dying have already released Echoes and If I Fall with that configuration, although it has not yet been confirmed whether either track will appear on the new album.

Polarized and Retribution arrive September 15th, with fan voting expected to follow.
