Happy Gilmore 2 Scores A Hole In One In This Week’s Streaming Charts

Share

The Sandman (the good one) takes two of the top slots in this week’s viewing figures.

to the surprise of absolutely no one, Happy Gilmore 2 was the film most Australians cued up last week. Absolute no-brainer that one – the film and the prediction. Adam Sandler does well on Netflix even when he’s not fronting the long-anticipated sequel to one of his most beloved early comedies. The OG Happy Gilmore also charted at number 6.

Indeed, the only person doing better than Sandler this week is Robert Eggers, whose meticulously macabre Nosferatu appears twice. While the novel Dracula alludes to the good Count, upon whom Nosferatu‘s Count Orlok is based, being able to appear in two places at once, in this case I’d assume a design intern is copping a bollocking over this as we speak.

Over in TV land, if we can still call it that, The Hunting Wives tops out the chart. Cards on the table, this one has flown completely under my radar, but Wikipedia helpfully informs me that this is an adaptation of the novel by May Cobb and stars Malin Akerman, Brittany Snow, and Dermot Mulroney. Some kind of small town murder mystery dealio, I understand.

The Trump-baiting new season of South Park is doing well, as is to be expected, and given the recent death of Ozzy, The Osbournes cracking the top 10 is a little bittersweet. Jason Momoa’s new historical adventure series Chief Of War is not doing as well as I might have liked, though – you should check that one out on Apple TV+. Big Jase fights a tiger shark in the opening scene – it’s amazing. And if you’re wondering why the old Nathan Fillion vehicle The Rookie is doing so well, it’s because the amiable police procedural recently debuted on Netflix, the Pet Sematary of network television.
