California has officially gone all in on Bad Bunny.

Ahead of Super Bowl LX, Governor Gavin Newsom has declared February 8th ‘Bad Bunny Day’ across the state, timed to coincide with the Puerto Rican superstar’s upcoming halftime performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara (per Billboard).

“I am declaring tomorrow in California as ‘Bad Bunny Day’ when Bad Bunny performs at the big game in the Golden State with his soothing, beautiful voice, and his very nice looks,” Newsom said via X on Saturday.

The governor later doubled down with a tongue-in-cheek follow-up, describing himself as “a tremendous lover of the Spanish” and “a huge fan of Puerto Rico,” before adding, “We love Bad Bunny! He is nearly as ‘hot’ as me — which is a big compliment, because there is nobody hotter. Happy Bad Bunny Day, America.”

Support also rolled in from Apple CEO Tim Cook, who shared a selfie with the artist ahead of the game, praising Bad Bunny’s cultural impact on social media.

All-Spanish halftime performance

Born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, Bad Bunny is set to deliver an all-Spanish halftime performance, marking one of the most prominent Spanish language showcases in Super Bowl history, the appearance follows a career defining year, with Bad Bunny recently winning Album of the Year at the 2026 Grammy Awards, becoming the first artist to take home the prize with a Spanish language album.

Speaking earlier this week to Access Hollywood, Bad Bunny explained his approach to the performance:

“I just want to be there. I’m just ready to do it. I want to feel it. I want people to watch it and enjoy it.”

The celebration also arrives amid political attention surrounding the halftime show, at the Grammys on February 1st, Bad Bunny delivered a pointed message on immigration and identity, saying:

“ICE out… We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens — we are humans, and we are Americans.”
