Bad Bunny has been hit with a lawsuit from a woman who claims her voice was included in two of the artist’s hit songs without her consent.
Pop-star Bad Bunny is facing a new $16 million USD lawsuit, which claims that the artist and his producer used a recording of a woman’s voice for two songs without her permission.
Per Rolling Stone, the plaintiff, Tainaly Y. Serrano Rivera, alleges in her 32-page lawsuit, filed Monday in Puerto Rico, that her voice appears on Bad Bunny’s 2018 track, ‘Solo de Mi’ from X100pre and ‘EoO’ from last year’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos.
Serrano says both songs feature her delivering the line “Mira, puñeta, no me quiten el perreo,” which roughly translates to “Listen, damn it, don’t take away my vibe.”
According to Serrano, she recorded the line at the request of Bad Bunny’s longtime producer, Robert Rosado, who also goes by La Paciencia. She claims she recorded the line in 2018, when they were students together at Interamerican University of Arecibo, where they took part in the school’s theatre program.
The plaintiff claims she was never informed that her recording would be used for commercial or advertising purposes, and that she never negotiated a contract or license, or provided any written authorisation, allowing the recording to be used in Bad Bunny’s songs.
Seranno goes on to say that Bad Bunny (Benito Martínez Ocasio), La Paciencia (Roberto Rosado) and the star’s record label Rimas Entertainment owe her $16 million for violating her privacy and publicity rights.
The lawyers representing Serrano – Jose M. Marxuach Fagot and Joanna Bocanegra Ocasio – are the same legal team that represented Bad Bunny’s ex-girlfriend Carliz De La Cruz Hernández in 2023. Cruz also claimed that Bad Bunny had used her voice on the songs ‘Pa’ Ti’ and ‘Dos Mil 16’ without her consent.
That case would go to federal court, before bouncing back to state court, where a final resolution is still pending.
