Beatles Biopic Casting Confirmed: Mescal, Keoghan, Quinn, and Dickinson to Play the Fab Four

The Beatles are getting the full cinematic treatment — four times over.

Director Sam Mendes has officially revealed the cast for his ambitious four-part Beatles biopic project, The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan and Joseph Quinn taking on the roles of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison respectively.

The announcement came during Sony’s CinemaCon 2025 presentation in Las Vegas. Mendes appeared onstage to introduce the cast via pre-recorded messages. He also laid out his vision for what he’s calling “the first bingeable theatrical experience.” Each film will follow a different member’s perspective, with overlapping timelines and shared moments told through individual lenses. Filming is set to run for a year, with a simultaneous release planned for April 2028.

It marks the first time the Beatles’ music and life stories have been officially authorised for the big screen by Apple Corps Ltd. Mendes described the films as a personal tribute to the band that “changed [his] understanding of music.”

While Mescal (playing McCartney) and Quinn (as Harrison) have both worked under Ridley Scott who inadvertently let slip the casting months ago. The rest of the lineup had been rumoured but unconfirmed until now. Keoghan stepping in as Ringo and Dickinson taking on Lennon rounds out a cast loaded with recent critical heat. Hopefully there is enough range to pull off the evolution from scrappy Liverpudlians to global icons.

At 84, Ringo Starr remains the only surviving Beatle actively weighing in. Speaking to PEOPLE, he admitted he’s curious to see how the films handle “the madness of making four movies at the same time.” He later gave the concept his blessing.

It’s a big swing: four intersecting biopics, one band, and a catalogue that helped define pop music. Whether it lands or collapses under the weight of legacy will be up to 2028. For now, the casting’s in — and the countdown’s begun.
