Bill Murray Kicks Off US Tour with a Night of Classic Covers in Chicago

Share

Bill Murray opened his US tour in style this past Friday (January 3), performing an eclectic mix of classic covers at Chicago’s Thalia Hall. The actor, cultural icon and king of unpredictability shared the stage with the blues collective Blood Brothers.

The setlist saw Murray dive into Bob Dylan’s iconic 1965 track ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ and The Kinks’ ‘Tired Of Waiting’. Fans were also treated to soulful renditions of Wilson Pickett’s ‘Midnight Hour’ and Paul Butterfield Blues Band’s ‘Born in Chicago’. True to form, Murray brought his unique brand of charisma to the stage, sporting a Chicago Blackhawks jersey whilst serenading the crowd.

Though this isn’t the Lost in Translation actor’s first foray into live music. In 2022, he delighted passersby in New York’s Washington Square Park with impromptu performances of West Side Story’s ‘I Feel Pretty’ and Porgy and Bess’ ‘It Ain’t Necessarily So’.

The Blood Brothers band brought their blues expertise to the forefront, providing the perfect foundation for Murray’s theatrical vocals. Together, they’ve lined up a nationwide tour that will include stops at iconic venues across North America, such as San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. The full tour dates are below.

Upcoming 2025 Tour Dates:

  • January 29–30 – San Francisco, CA – Great American Music Hall
  • February 7 – Atlanta, GA – Variety Playhouse
  • February 14 – Port Chester, NY – The Capitol Theatre
  • February 15 – New York, NY – Sony Hall
  • March 25–26 – Austin, TX – The Paramount Theatre
  • April 11 – West Des Moines, IA – Val Air Ballroom
  • April 12 – Saint Louis, MO – The Pageant
  • October 4 – Louisville, KY – The Louisville Palace

With his knack for unexpected musical ventures, Murray’s tour promises a mix of heartfelt tributes and whimsical charm. Whilst no Australian tour dates have yet been announced, Murray himself actually toured the country in 2018 with German cellist Jan Vogler. So who knows what the future holds.
