Bruce Dickinson has offered fans another glimpse at his upcoming solo album, and if his latest description is anything to go by, the Iron Maiden frontman is preparing something seriously heavy.
Speaking with VSX at last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, Dickinson discussed the evolution of The Mandrake Project and revealed that his next solo record is already well underway.
The album, which is tentatively expected in early 2027 through BMG, will follow 2024’s The Mandrake Project and take Dickinson in a somewhat different direction (per Blabbermouth)
“I’ve got a new record coming out next year, new solo album. It’s kind of standalone. There’s one song that has a bit of something to do with ‘Mandrake’. Now, the album is heavy as shit.”
Dickinson explained that he doesn’t feel the need to continue tying his music directly to The Mandrake Project, believing the story can now exist independently through its comic book format.
New album well underway
The new record is already deep into production, with most of the album recorded during January and February at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in California.
Rather than spending months piecing the record together, Dickinson and his band recorded 16 songs across just three weeks, with the sessions reportedly captured live.
“We did it] all 100 percent live. It’s like the anti-A.I. generation.”
The album features Dickinson’s current touring musicians, including keyboardist Mistheria, drummer Dave Moreno, bassist Tanya O’Callaghan and guitarists Chris Declercq and Philip Näslund. Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser has also contributed percussion.
Dickinson has previously revealed that his son Austin will appear on the record, while he has also teased that fans could hear some of the new material before the end of 2026.
For Dickinson, the goal is to avoid simply recreating what came before.
“I try to not repeat — not because it’s bad. You want to move on and put different nuance on things.”
Iron Maiden Australian tour
While fans wait for the solo album, Australian audiences will get the chance to see Dickinson with Iron Maiden later this year when the band’s Run For Your Lives World Tour arrives Down Under for their 50th anniversary celebrations.
