It’s been 15 years since Cake last toured Australia, but the wait is officially over.
California alt-rock institution Cake has announced ‘An Evening With Cake’, a national headline run landing in March 2027 and marking the band’s first Australian shows since 2012.
Rather than a standard support slot format, the tour promises two full sets each night, giving fans a deep dive into one of alternative music’s most distinctive catalogues.
That means plenty of room for staples including The Distance, Short Skirt/Long Jacket, Never There, Frank Sinatra, I Will Survive and whatever else the famously unpredictable group decides to pull out.

Australian memories stand strong
Despite the long gap between visits, the band says Australia has never disappeared from memory.
“Although Australia is a distant continent for us, our memories of its wonderful audiences remain clear. We are delighted to have the opportunity to be part of that vibrant music scene once again,” said trumpet player Vincent DiFiore.
More than three decades into their career, Cake remain one of modern rock’s true outliers, built around independence and doing things their own way, the band still records from its solar powered Sacramento studio and continues running its environmental initiative, Cake Forest, which gives away native tree saplings at headline shows.
Their most recent studio album, Showroom of Compassion, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and reinforced the band’s reputation for making music that sits somewhere between rock, funk, country, folk and pop, while never sounding quite like anybody else.
They’re also working toward their long awaited ninth studio album, expected next year, which will reportedly feature the track Billionaire in Space.
If you’ve never seen Cake live, this might be the closest thing to catching them in their natural habitat.
