Chelsea Wolfe has unveiled the next chapter of her ever evolving musical journey, announcing her ninth studio album, The Dark, due for release on August 21st via Loma Vista Recordings.

Alongside the announcement, acclaimed singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe has released the album’s opening track, Cold, offering fans a powerful first glimpse into a record that promises to explore transformation, fear and self-discovery through Wolfe’s unmistakable blend of haunting beauty and emotional intensity.

Described as an album built around mystery, symbolism and solace, The Dark draws inspiration from the idea of venturing into the woods at their darkest point and confronting the very thing you fear. Wolfe developed the record with new co-writer Jennifer Decilveo alongside longtime collaborator Ben Chisholm, intentionally stripping back dense production to place greater focus on the songwriting itself.

The result is a collection of ten songs that showcases Wolfe’s most intimate and confident work to date, supported by an impressive lineup of musicians including Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails), Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) and Justin Meldal-Johnsen.

The announcement continues an incredibly busy year for Wolfe. In recent weeks she introduced GHOSTS, a collection of bespoke fragrances created in partnership with Heretic, released the double A-side The Dark / Death Is Not The End, and announced extensive touring across the United States and Europe.

Across a career spanning nearly two decades, Wolfe has become one of alternative music’s most distinctive voices, effortlessly weaving together elements of doom metal, folk, industrial, electronic music and ethereal balladry. Her collaborations with artists including Chino Moreno, Converge and Xiu Xiu, alongside soundtrack work for HBO’s Game of Thrones and A24’s horror film X, have further cemented her reputation as an artist who continually pushes creative boundaries.

Excitement surrounding The Dark has already been building. Last month, a mystery pre-order made available exclusively through Wolfe’s mailing list sold out in under 30 minutes, demonstrating the anticipation surrounding her latest era.

With Cold now offering the first taste of what’s to come, The Dark is shaping up to be another immersive and emotionally rich addition to Chelsea Wolfe’s remarkable catalogue.
