Ohio alternative rock favourites Citizen have unveiled the title track from their upcoming album Halcyon Blues, while also confirming a major Australian headline tour for February and March 2027.
Set for release on August 7th via Run For Cover Records and Civilians, Halcyon Blues marks another evolution for a band that has spent nearly two decades reshaping its sound while building one of the most loyal followings in modern rock.
The newly released title track follows the success of lead single “Highs and Lows,” which generated significant praise across music media and quickly became a fan favourite. While that track leaned heavily into Citizen’s larger than life alternative rock instincts, “Halcyon Blues” reveals a more reflective side of the band, blending lush instrumentation with deeply personal songwriting.

Speaking about the song, vocalist Mat Kerekes explained:
“It’s about a silent disconnect between two people. You both know you’re no longer meant to be in each other’s lives but instead of accepting it, you sit in the space between and watch one another become strangers in real time.”
Recorded by Kerekes and mixed by acclaimed engineer Tom Lord-Alge, whose credits include U2, Weezer and Blink-182, the album combines the urgency of Citizen’s earlier material with the expansive songwriting and polished hooks that have defined their recent releases.
Seventeen years into their career, Citizen continue to thrive by refusing to chase trends. Instead, the Toledo outfit have steadily expanded their musical identity, moving between emo, post-hardcore, indie rock and alternative sounds without losing the emotional core that made fans connect with them in the first place.
