Converge will headline the inaugural Lucidity festival in Melbourne next March, with Oathbreaker and Portrayal of Guilt also making their Australian debuts.
Converge return to Australia for the first time since 2019, and they’re doing it with Jane Doe in tow.
The Massachusetts hardcore pioneers will headline the inaugural Lucidity festival at Melbourne Pavilion on Saturday, March 13, 2027, performing their landmark 2001 album in full for its 25th anniversary.
Announced by Destroy All Lines, the new festival brings together an especially nasty cross-section of hardcore, metal and extreme music, with Oathbreaker, Extortion, Portrayal of Guilt, The Broderick, Wiegedood, Ends In Tragedy, Blind Girls, ISUA and Melting completing the bill.
Converge’s Jane Doe set will be a festival exclusive and one of the relatively few occasions the band have performed the record front to back.
The band performed Jane Doe in full at Roadburn Festival in 2016, a performance later released as Jane Live. Converge returned to the album for full performances at Decibel Metal & Beer Fest events in Philadelphia and Los Angeles in 2021.
For Australian fans, though, the bigger point is considerably simpler: this will be Converge’s first appearance here in eight years. Their last Australian run came in March 2019, when they appeared at the final edition of Download Festival Australia and played headline shows around the country.
The announcement follows a busy year for Converge, who released Love Is Not Enough in February, with BLUNT previously covering the single ‘We Were Never The Same’ ahead of the album’s release.
Converge aren’t the only act on the Lucidity bill making a rare or first Australian appearance.
Belgian post-metal and hardcore band Oathbreaker will make their first Australian appearance with a festival-exclusive performance celebrating ten years of Rheia. After an eight-year absence, the band returned to live activity in 2026, including a full performance of the album at this year’s Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands.
Texan heavy experimentalists Portrayal of Guilt will also make their Australian debut, while Belgium’s Wiegedood return for the first time since 2018.
Closer to home, Melbourne’s The Broderick will reunite for a festival-exclusive performance marking 15 years of Free To Rot, Free Of Sin. Australian powerviolence mainstays Extortion lead the local contingent alongside Ends In Tragedy, Blind Girls, ISUA and Melting.
Lucidity will extend beyond the bands themselves, with a Homewrecker Records pop-up built by visual artist Callum Preston, artist Q&As hosted by the Oblivious Maximus podcast, market stalls and food trucks also planned.
Only 2,000 tickets will be available.
