Daisy Ridley Kills Zombies In The Trailer For We Bury The Dead

Share

Looks like a lightsaber would really be handy in this upcoming Australian survival horror.

Australian genre director Zak Hilditch likes his apocalypses. Having already ended the world with 2013’s These Final Hours, he’s now set to repeat the trick with the upcoming zombie flick, We Bury The Dead, which puts Star Wars: The Force AwakensDaisy Ridley smack bang in the middle of undead-ravaged Tasmania. Sounds only marginally worse than regular old Tasmania, to be honest.

We Bury The Dead Trailer

What’s the plot?

After a catastrophic, high casualty “military event” rocks Tasmania, Ava (Daisy Ridley) joins one of the volunteer clean up crews, partnering up with ocker Clay (Brenton Thwaites) to help clear up the 500,000 or so bodies now clogging up the landscape. The problem is, some of those bodies get up and try to eat people, which complicates Ava’s quest to find her husband, who’s been missing since everything went kablooey. Tonally, this looks like it’s firmly down the grimmer end of the spectrum, but other than that, details are a bit thin.

Who’s in it?

  • Daisy Ridley as Ava Newman.
  • Mark Coles Smith as Riley.
  • Brenton Thwaites as Clay.
  • Kym Jackson as Lt. Wilkie.
  • Matt Whelan as Mitch.
  • Deanna Cooney as Bianca.
  • Salme Geransar as Private Clarkson.

When’s it out?

We Bury The Dead is undated in Australia, which is a bit weird given it’s an Australian film. It’s getting a US release on January 2, though, and still has a festival date or two locally (the Adelaide Film Festival is next), so we should get a release date soon.

What’s the vibe?

Zak Hilditch is a bit of a gun when comes to horror – his Stephen King adaptation 1922 is well worth tracking down – and between this, The Last Of Us, and 28 Years Later, we seem to be in the middle of a zombie surge, so we’ll be lining up for this one.
