David Duchovny Doesn’t Know Much About The X-Files Reboot

Out spruiking his new History Channel series Secrets Declassified, David Duchovny fielded a few X-Files questions.

Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel and playing the central duo of dour FBI agents in Ryan Coogler‘s upcoming reboot of iconic 90s series, The X-Files, and not original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

That hasn’t stopped interviewers from throwing a few questions about the new series on the sly, though. Really, you’d kind of have to. Recently, Gillian Anderson revealed that she’d read Coogler’s pilot script and had a few talks with the Creed and Black Panther director. Now Duchovny, who played driven UFO obsessive Fox Mulder in the original series, said that he too has had a chat with Coogler – but he hasn’t read the script.

Asked about it by The Hollywood Reporter while talking about his new History Channel series, Secrets Declassified, Duchovny answered, “I wish them luck. It’s a great frame that Chris Carter came up with all those years ago — a believer and a nonbeliever tackling these mysteries. I always thought it was endlessly generative.”

Pressed on whether he’d read the script, he said, “No, I haven’t. I’ve spoken to Ryan, and I have a general sense of what it is, but I haven’t read the script.”

And as for any potential return to the franchise? Well, it’s all a bit up in the air at the moment.

“There have been talks about certain things, but there’s nothing concrete at this point. I don’t know what the world of his show is. I don’t know if my character exists in that show. It’s all hypothetical to me, so I can’t really address it.”

It’s worth remembering that Hulu have only commissioned a pilot at this point – a full series may or may not eventuate, meaning we may be getting ahead of ourselves. But it would be cool to see Spooky Fox Mulder again.
