Punk legends Descendents are turning nearly five decades of band history into a graphic novel, with two previously unreleased tracks accompanying special editions.
Descendents have spent nearly five decades helping shape punk rock. Now, the Californian band are taking their story off the stage and onto the page with Milo Goes To Comics, an official graphic novel exploring their history, friendships and music.
And they’re bringing some new music along for the ride.
Created in partnership with publisher Z2 Comics, the forthcoming book traces the band’s journey from its beginnings in the 1970s through decades of releases, line-up changes and enduring influence on punk.
The project brings together frontman Milo Aukerman, drummer Bill Stevenson and music journalist Annie Zaleski, with illustrations by Ryan Dunlavey.
Rather than simply revisiting familiar milestones, the graphic novel promises a closer look at the relationships, experiences and lesser-known moments behind Descendents and their closely connected band, ALL.
The collaboration also extends beyond the book itself.
Deluxe editions include an exclusive 7-inch vinyl featuring two new Descendents songs, ‘I Stuck Around’ and ‘Old Power’, giving fans something beyond an illustrated trip through the band’s past.
It’s a fitting development for a band whose visual identity has been almost as recognisable as its music. The cartoon likeness of Aukerman, immortalised on the cover of 1982’s Milo Goes To College, has become one of punk’s most enduring images.
The new graphic novel’s title offers a direct nod to that legacy, bringing the band’s history full circle through another illustrated incarnation of Milo.
Z2 is offering several editions of Milo Goes To Comics, including a standard hardcover, a deluxe package featuring the exclusive vinyl and a limited signed collector’s edition.
The signed edition is limited to 500 copies and includes signatures from Aukerman and Stevenson, alongside additional artwork and collectibles.
The book is expected to ship by the end of March 2027, according to the publisher, with pre-orders already available through the official Descendents collection.
For a band that helped establish the blueprint for melodic punk, Milo Goes To Comics offers a different way to tell the story, this time with the people who lived it helping put it on the page.
