The Dune: Part Three Teaser Promises A Suitably Epic Conclusion

Share

Dune: Part Three adapts one of the trickier books in Frank Herbert’s sci-fi saga, but it looks like they’ve nailed it.

For all its giant worms, drug-induced prophecies, ancient conspiracies, and whatnot, the original Dune novel is the least weird the whole saga gets. Go a little further, and you’ve got people turning into worms and all manner of high strangeness. But the second book, 1969’s Dune Messiah, which director Denis Villeneuve is adapting in Dune: Part Three, doesn’t exactly come up short in that department either. This first teaser is playing it coy, but mark my words…

What’s the plot?

The official synopsis offers precisely bupkis, but using the original book as a model, we pick things up about 12 years after Dune: Part 3, with the massive interstellar jihad that Paul initiated still raging, and the young Emperor contemplating the horrible sacrifices that must be made if he’s to guide humanity to its ultimate potential. Meanwhile, a conspiracy at the highest levels threatens to topple the Atreides throne – which might not necessarily be a bad thing.

Who’s in it?

  • Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, the Padishah Emperor and head of House Atreides.
  • Zendaya as Chani, Paul’s Fremen lover.
  • Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, the deceased swordmaster of House Atreides, resurrected as a kind of clone.
  • Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Paul’s wife and the daughter of former Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV.
  • Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Reverend Mother and Paul and Alia’s mother.
  • Isaach de Bankolé as Farok, Paul’s former Fedaykin.
  • Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother and the Emperor’s Truthsayer.
  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Paul’s sister.
  • Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer and one of the main villains.
  • Javier Bardem as Stilgar, a leader of the Fremen.
  • Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, Paul and Chani’s son.
  • Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides, Paul and Chani’s daughter.
  • Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, weapons master of House Atreides.

When’s it out?

Dune: Part Three is in cinemas from December 17.
