Ecca Vandal is back, the Melbourne based artist has unveiled her new single ‘BLEACH’, a snarling, genre splicing cut that arrives with a fully self directed video and zero interest in playing safe.
Written, styled, edited, and directed by Vandal herself, the video doubles down on the DIY ethos that’s defined her recent run of releases. ‘BLEACH’ follows ‘MOLLY’, ‘CRUISING TO SELF SOOTHE’, ‘BLEED BUT NEVER DIE’ and ‘THEN THERE’S ONE’, all pulled from her long awaited, yet to be announced follow up to her 2017 self titled debut.
‘BLEACH’ feels like a hard reset, it’s tense, confrontational, and deliberately uncomfortable, the sound of someone burning down the parts of themselves that no longer fit.
Speaking about the track, Vandal explains (per press release):
“‘BLEACH’ is the moment you shed the version of yourself moulded by fear. It’s brutal, honest, messy, and necessary — letting the old stuff go to make room for something new.”
That refusal to sit still has always been the point, with roots in jazz and a deep love for punk’s lawless energy, Vandal has spent her career stitching together hip-hop, rock, soul, trip-hop, and electronic elements into something that feels volatile and unmistakably hers.
