Everclear Are Bringing Sparkle and Fade Back to Australia This Summer

Share

Everclear are heading back to Australia this November and December to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their album Sparkle and Fade.

This album quite literally made them a household name and gave the world one of alt-rock’s most enduring opening riffs.

If you were alive in 1995 and owned a CD player, chances are Sparkle and Fade was in it. The album gave us Santa Monica, Heroin Girl, and Heartspark Dollarsign. And for a minute there Everclear were everywhere and I mean like everywhere. On MTV, on the radio, on magazine covers, and in every second car stereo on the school run. Now they’re bringing the whole thing back for a run of 16 shows around the country, all the way from big cities to outer suburbs and beach towns.

The tour kicks off in Newcastle on 21 November and wraps in Adelaide on 13 December, with stops in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Canberra, Townsville, Duncraig and a bunch of places that haven’t seen a band like Everclear in years.

According to front man Art Alexakis, the shows will be a mix of hits and deep cuts, with most of Sparkle and Fade played across each set. In other words, if you still know every word to Strawberry, you’re covered.

Alexakis is still leading the charge at 62, MS diagnosis and all, and remains one of those rare musicians who doesn’t feel like he’s pretending to be 25 again. In a recent interview, he said Sparkle and Fade was the album he always wanted to make, and that it still feels personal thirty years later. “It changed everything for me and Everclear,” he said. “We’ve survived because of it.”

Tickets go on sale Thursday 31 July at 9am AEST and can be accessed here. The full tour dates are listed below.
