Foo Fighters have announced three additional Asian tour dates this October, marking their return to the stage amid major personal drama and a drummer switch-up.
Foo Fighters are gearing up for a return to the stage with a run of shows across Asia this October, while remaining notably silent on the replacement for drummer Josh Freese in the wake of his sudden ousting last week.
The alt-rock titans will kick off the short tour in Jakarta on 2 October, with stops in Singapore (at the Formula 1 Grand Prix), Tokyo and Osaka rounding out the run. It marks the band’s first live appearances since September 2024, when frontman Dave Grohl dropped a personal bombshell by publicly confirming he’d fathered a child outside his marriage.
Since then, things have only gotten messier behind the scenes for Foo Fighters. Drumming powerhouse Josh Freese, who stepped in behind the kit following the death of Taylor Hawkins, was abruptly fired last week. The band hasn’t confirmed who’s replacing him, but rumours are swirling that Shane Hawkins – Taylor’s 18-year-old son – is the most likely successor.
While a member being kicked from a band is pretty common news (especially in the last week), what’s had Foo Fighters fans up in arms is the drama surrounding it all. Freese himself has taken to Instagram to point fun at the situation with a list of the top 10 reasons he was booted, while other drummers from the community have rallied in support of him. Even the original Foo Fighters drummer, William Goldsmith, has gone to bat for Freese – while Foo Fighters themselves continue to keep it mum about what the hell’s going on.
With a lineup shuffle incoming and tabloid headlines in the rearview, these new Asian shows have fans on high alert. With no forthcoming lineup announcement, or any statement really on the matter, this new chapter for Foo Fighters is under a microscope.
