Forza Horizon 6 has been formally announced during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show broadcast, and it’ll be set in Japan when it launches in 2026.

Forza Horizon 6 is coming to a highly requested location: Japan. After over a month of rumours that the title would be announced during Tokyo Game Show, it’s set to launch in 2026 – it’ll release first on PC and Xbox, before arriving on PlayStation 5 post-launch.

“The teams at Playground Games and Turn 10 have poured their hearts into Forza Horizon 6, bringing Japan to life like never before,” said Xbox executive Matt Booty. “This has been the most-requested location since the very first game and we can’t wait to share more next year.”

Art Director Don Arceta told IGN that Forza Horizon 6 would include Tokyo City, which will be the “most complex and intricate space of drivable area in a Horizon game yet.” The title will also include a Mount Fuji location.

An Xbox Wire blog post goes into more detail as to what players can expect from Forza Horizon 6 – as well as why they decided to choose Japan as the next setting for the franchise.

“For a long time, Japan has been top of Horizon fans’ wish lists, so we’re excited to finally be bringing this much-requested location to players in Forza Horizon 6,” explains Arceta. “Japan has such a unique culture – from cars, to music, to fashion – that make it perfect for the next Horizon setting. As with any Horizon title, we want to make sure we do the country justice in terms of authentic representation and Horizon open world playability – and now is the right time to realize that fully for players.”

According to the blog post, now is the best time for a Horizon title to visit Japan as the technical capabilities can keep up with representing the country properly.

“The beauty of Horizon games is that each one gives us learnings and ways to make the next even bigger and better,” Arceta said. “As well as taking player feedback into account, we’ve also been able to lean into more practical things – for instance, the Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels DLC has helped us develop the elevated roads of Tokyo City in [Forza Horizon 6].”

Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC in 2026 and will be available on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch. Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are working in collaboration to bring the title to PlayStation 5 post launch. No exact release date has been announced so far – but players can wishlist the game on the Microsoft Store or Steam.
