The V/H/S horror franchise is turning up the volume for its next chapter, with Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge and shock metal legends GWAR both confirmed for the upcoming anthology film V/H/S/MIXTAPE.
The latest entry in the long running found footage horror series is set to premiere exclusively on Shudder on October 9th, bringing together horror, music and some of the genre’s most creative minds for a fresh take on the franchise.
Forge’s involvement comes in the form of a specially directed music video segment, marking another creative venture for the Ghost frontman beyond the band’s acclaimed live shows and cinematic storytelling.
Meanwhile, GWAR will also feature in the project, adding their trademark theatrical chaos to the film (per Lamb Goat).
Filmmakers from both the music and film worlds
The anthology boasts an impressive lineup of filmmakers from both the music and film worlds. Alongside Forge are acclaimed rapper and filmmaker RZA (Wu-Tang Clan), veteran director Ernest Dickerson, French filmmaker David Moreau, and director Renee Zhan.
Adding another musical layer to the project, experimental artist and filmmaker Flying Lotus has created the film’s music video interludes.
According to the official synopsis:
“V/H/S/MIXTAPE cranks the signature found-footage horror up to eleven with an electrifying new anthology where music and sound become the source of terror. United by a theme that explores the power of music, rhythm, and audio to haunt, possess, and destroy, the film blends cosmic horror, psychological suspense, outrageous splatter, and groundbreaking practical effects into one unforgettable mixtape of nightmares.”
The V/H/S series has built a loyal following by combining multiple short horror stories under a shared theme, with each instalment introducing new filmmakers and inventive takes on the found footage format. V/H/S/MIXTAPE continues that tradition while placing music at the centre of its scares.
For fans of Ghost, horror anthologies and heavy music culture, the film looks set to offer something a little different when it arrives this October, blending live performance energy with supernatural terror in what could become one of the franchise’s most unique instalments.
