Godzilla Minus Zero Announced At – Where Else? – Godzilla Fest

Share

The sequel to the incredible Godzilla Minus One is stomping out way soon.

The world may be in rough shape, but here’s a reason to be cheerful: we have two Godzilla franchises running at once, a surfeit of kaiju joy. While Legendary’s MonsterVerse sees Big G tussling with King Kong and other Titans, Toho gave us the jaw-dropping Godzilla Minus One, the best Godzilla flick since… well, the very first, I’d argue. And now comes the news that the promised sequel has a title: Godzilla Minus Zero.

The announcement came at Tokyo’s annual Godzilla Fest, a thing I am delighted to learn exists, and was quickly confirmed by Toho’s official X account, as you can see above.

Set in the immediate aftermath of World War II, Godzilla Minus One was a smash hit, grossing $115m against a budget of only $15m, earning rave reviews, and winning the Oscar for Best Visual Effects – the first non-English film to do so. The original film’s writer, director, and VFX maestro, Takashi Yamazaki, is returning to call the shots on the sequel, which is excellent news.

And pretty much all the news, in fact. No plot or cast details have been released at the time of writing, and we don’t even have a concrete release date, although the back half of 2026 seems likely. Still: new Godzilla incoming. You gotta be happy with that.
